![]() I disagree with ivits being the best at 2 I've found they can be blocked in tempo on research tracks by a lot of factions and they are the second easiest to block on the board. Lantids and gleens are quite bad at 2p, and you can basically blind pick ambas into any setup and be competitive (not necessarily the best choice, but still very strong). The only thing I dislike about 2p is the change in balance. GP is clearly designed as a serious competitive game, and all serious competitive games function best at 2p (or 1 team vs. The better you get, the more you will realize how much kingmaking goes on in higher player counts (which really is a thing in every multiplayer game and gaia does it better than most, but it's still consistently there). I prefer 2 player over all the other player counts. Note: sitting at ~ 120 plays, ~100 of those at 2p. Some might feel that a 3 player match adds more randomness, and while I can attest that there are occasions where one opponent makes decisions that stifle your strategy and allows a third or 4th player to run away with the game, something that is absent from a 2 player game, this is rather rare, and tends to only happen with inexperienced players. While it's true that some races just dont work as well on 2 player (taklons, lantids, nevlas, itars, etc) it's also true that some work even better (Hadsch Hallas, Ambas, Gleens.) You might not start to see this dynamic unfold in certain player skill brackets, simply because people often are not experienced enough to take advantage of their power, but the strategy becomes far more intense and the competition for end game goals, tech tiles, and the top of the tech tracks become FAR more interesting than a 2 player could get even on it's best days. This means that 3 and 4 player games tend to work together more often, and the games become much higher power games, allowing for more potential in the late game. While this becomes somewhat equal in a 2 player game (and you can leverage this to your advantage or not,) in a 3 or 4 player game, the chances are that you will be the one being denied power, while your opponents will gain power off each other. Generally, Choosing to deny your opponents power at any opportunity will result in you also gaining less power from them. While 2 player is interesting, and actually change the way you play from a 3 or 4 player, I would not say it is better. After 87 plays though the game, I can reliably say that 3 is the best player count.
